Red Shores’ weekend of live racing is all set to go, as the Charlottetown Driving Park has an evening program set for Saturday and Summerside Raceway will follow with an afternoon card on Sunday.

Ramblinglily and Shadows Mystery to hook up in Guardian Pace

The field is set in the open mares handicap pace Saturday with six starters vying for the top share of the $2,250 purse. First-race post time is 6 p.m. at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

Ramblinglily has been established as the morning line favorite (5-2) for trainer Allan Jones and catch-driver Marc Campbell. The mare is going for her 11th win of the campaign after a third-place finish in Saint John last weekend. The six-year-old daughter of Articulator lines up from post five and will face challenges from Shadows Mystery (pp4) and Drivingthedragon N (Mark Bradley).

Shadows Mystery, a member of the red hot Jackie Matheson stable and owned by Gordon Ford, is capable of knocking off the favourite with her incredible closing speed. Gilles Barrieau will be in the bike. Barrieau has driving assignments in Fredericton, NB earlier in the day including DG Camme in the Joe and Jennie Chippin Memorial. Drivingthedragon N comes off the bench after earning her first victory in two tries since arriving from Yonkers Raceway for owner Donald MacRae, Vernon Bridge, PE and trainer Jason Hughes. Hughes is also competing at Fredericton Raceway so Mark Bradley gets the call to drive. The field also includes Alittleeastermagic (Gordie Hennessey), Momara (Norris Rogers) and Somone Like You (Gary Chappell).

The evening’s feature for a purse of $2,300, is on Race 11 with an 8:51 p.m. post time. Race analysts are split on their top choices with race secretary Gerard Smith leading with Nogreatmishief, charted in 1:54.3 in his outing, while Les MacIsaac puts Clic K as his top choice.

The top class also has Eagle Jolt (4-1), Doing Some Damage (7-2), Rash B Havior (8-1), First Art Down (10-1) and Forever Paradise (6-1).

Motorino favoured in Summerside

Motorino will attempt back to back winning performances when he takes four competitors in the afternoon featured event Sunday at Red Shores Summerside. Post time is 1 p.m.

The pacer, driven by trainer Terry Gallant for his co-owner Eric Johnston, Summerside, PE, has five wins from 18 starts and draws Post 2 for Gallant with DBS Rosco (Kenny Arsenault) and Oh To Be Me (Gary Chappell) also listed as triactor candidates. Spirit of America leaves from the rail while Painted Desert lines up from Post 5.

The back-up class has a power-packed field of eight with Lucky Encounter getting the nod for trainer Dale Sobey, owner Jeff Ferrish, Summerside, PE and driver Gary Chappell. Toad River, who finished second to Lucky Encounter last week from the rail, is back in for the challenge but will have to maneuver from Post 7 for driver Ken Murphy. Murphy is closing in a career win 500.

In other action, Pictonian Storm is the favourite to lead of the Pick 5 players in Race 6 for Ryan Desroche. The young driving ace has 76 drives this season.
