Prince Edward Island harness racing mourns the loss of an industry leader with the sudden passing of Prince County Horsemen’s Club President Phillip Doucette, who passed away at the Prince County Hospital shortly after competing in a race at Red Shores at Summerside Raceway. He was 55.
Doucette was a long time industry participant, and an active breeder, owner, trainer and driver. In partnership with his late father Henry he owned numerous horses, most notably Warrantable, a Gold Cup and Saucer starter in his era. During his career Phillip competed at racetracks across Atlantic Canada, Ontario and New York.
Born in Alberton, he was the son of Theresa (Perry) Doucette and the late Henry Doucette. Survived by his wife Marlene (Gallant) Doucette; daughter Jennifer (Christopher) Vriends, Summerside; son Nick Doucette (Stacey Hutchinson-Maund), Hunter River; grandchildren Alyssa and Brody; brothers and sisters Gloria (Donald) Hackett, North Cape; Darlene Doucette (Kevin Gordon), Summerside; Robert (Nancy) Doucette, Tignish; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his special uncle Walter "Junior" Perry.
Resting at the Moase Funeral Home, Summerside, until Thursday, then to St. John The Baptist Church, Miscouche, for funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment in St. John The Baptist Cemetery, Miscouche.
