For the second straight year, Vernon Downs will host the $180,000 New York Sire Stakes’ Excelsior Series three-year-old finals, which will take place on Saturday, September 19.
The card will also feature consolation races for the NYSS three-year-old divisions sponsored by Golden Gro and the final of the Vernon Downs Racing Under Saddle series.
Horsepeople are reminded that in order to be eligible for the $50,000 consolation events, they must enter their horses at Yonkers for the Night of Champions on September 12. The entry box for the Night of Champions closes on September 8 at 9 a.m.
Besides the competitive racing, on-track fans will be treated to several events and promotions. The second annual Truck Trottin’ Food Truck Rodeo featuring more than ten area food trucks will take place at the racetrack from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Racing fans will also receive a free fleece blanket (while supplies last) and can compete for the $250 first-place prize in a free handicapping contest.
The Morrisville Yearling Sale will take place the following day, and horsepeople that are in town for the sale or the races are invited to a post-race reception at Mr. G’s Food & Spirits, which is located inside the Vernon Downs Hotel.
