Trot Insider has learned that longtime horseman Tony Karaz of Gladstone, MB has passed away at the age of 89
.
He is survived by wife Stephanie, son Terry (Barb), daughter Val (George Isman) and grandchildren Tiffany, Courtney, Garett and Tara.
Karaz's passion for racing standardbreds spanned a period of 40 years, during which he participated in the industry as a breeder, owner, trainer and driver. He raced his horses in all of the Western provinces as well as the United States. Some of his horses included Bogart, Steal Away, Kara Brewer and Incognito Chris. Karaz had a natural ability to develop two and three-year-old stake winners and was known as the "stake man" by many of his fellow horsemen in Manitoba.
Karaz's passion for racing will live on in the hearts of his family, many of whom continue to participate in the standardbred racing industry.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 5 at St. Dominics Church in Neepawa, MB at 11 a.m.
