It has been announced that multiple stakes winner and influential sire Grinfromeartoear (p,3,1:50.1 [$1,746,009]) has passed away at the age of 23.

Australia’s Alabar Farms has announced that the son of Artsplace was euthanized today (Thursday, Sept. 26) due to an ongoing health issue.

Alabar has explained that Grinfromeartoear didn't recover from a kidney complication earlier this year and it was decided that euthanasia was the most humane option.

Born in 1996, Grinfromeartoear was a star on the racetrack. The career winner of $1.7 million in purses captured the $660,250 Woodrow Wilson and the $600,100 Metro Pace as a two-year-old, and at three won the $588,800 Breeders Crown, $192,000 Tattersalls and the $174,675 Matron.

In terms of the breeding shed, Grinfromeartoear’s top progeny included Mister Big $4,143,492, Mr Feelgood $3,366,157, Not Enough $1,389,925 and Smiling Shard $1,089,831.

Alabar has stated that although he was a bit grumpy at times, ‘Grin’ was a lovely stallion to have around. The farm would like to thank everyone that supported him throughout his stud career.

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the connections of Grinfromeartoear.
