The iconic Round Barn, adjacent to the Red Mile off South Broadway in Lexington, Ky., is the location for the Barn Buggy Bash on Monday, October 2 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. The event is hosted by the Round Barn Stable of Memories and Bayou Bluegrass Catering.
The unique structure is managed by the 501(c)(3) group Stable of Memories, and not only houses some of harness racing's greatest memorabilia, but is used for weddings, fundraisers, and other community events.
Individual tickets are $45 and include Bayou Bluegrass Catering's popular barbecue dinner, beer, and two drink tickets. Tables of eight are also available for $325. Advance purchase is requested either by calling 859.509.0092 or online at https://squareup.com/stableofmemories.
Proceeds from the dinner and silent auction will go toward restoring some of the antique carriages housed in the Round Barn, as well as other improvements and upkeep. Among the items to be offered in the silent auction are works of art, jewelry, local services, racing equipment and supplies, and memorabilia.
“We are really excited about hosting this event,” said Kathryn McKinley, president of the board. “This building is such a treasure for harness racing participants and fans, and for the city of Lexington.
“Preserving the building's heritage is a labour of love by our dedicated board members, and there is nothing we like more than being able to share it for events such as this,” she said.
A newly-restored Healey Runabout, a light carriage with large wheels popular in the late 1800s, will be on display. The Stable of Memories has two more carriages to restore – a J.B. Brewster Side Bar Wagon and Park Pheaton.
Among the sponsors for the event are Bayou Bluegrass Catering, Clark Distributing, Mary Lou Dondarski, L.V. Harkness & Co., Park Equine and Russell Capital.
