Longtime horse owner Dale Debnam passed away on Thursday (Sept. 19) after a valiantly-fought battle with cancer. He died at Lindsay’s Ross Memorial Hospital, where he had been born 74 years earlier.

Dale and his wife Karen raced horses with trainer John Bax for many years. Dale’s most successful trotter was the Majestic Son daughter Charmed Life, who earned over $440,000 during her two- and three-year-old seasons. She was sold early in 2014 and went on to earn more than $1.5 million in her career. She is now a broodmare with Hanover Shoe Farms.

Other successful trotters Dale had a share of included Oaklea Omega and the Yankee Glide daughter As Yall Like It. Dale and Karen also campaigned a homebred pacer, Im The Skipper, at their home track of Kawartha Downs for several years.

Dale worked at General Motors in Oshawa for close to four decades. His survivors include his beloved wife Karen, son Kevin, daughter-in-law Kerri and granddaughter Madeline.

A celebration of life will take place on Tuesday, September 24, at Celebrations, 35 Lindsay St. North, Lindsay from 1:00 p.m. until time of tribute at 2:00 p.m. For full obituary, or to leave a condolence message, please visit the Mackey Funeral Home website.
