Jason Hughes had a productive day at the office, recording five wins on the Sunday afternoon card at Red Shores Summerside.
The Stratford, P.E.I. native started with Bon Vivant Hanover for trainer and karaoke star Deanna Clow, and followed up with wins aboard his own trainees Walbert for owner Ashley Gamester, and Cambest Kisser and Richlyn Yogi from the Donald and Steven MacRae stable. Rowlock Hanover gave Hughes his fifth winner. The pacer loves the Summerside oval as he has two top place finishes and a second since relocating to P.E.I. from Ottawa. Jansen Sweet trains for his co-owner Brody Ellis.
Dale Spence and Mike Stevenson had driving doubles. Spence opened the card with a victory aboard Western Sexy for owner John McGuirk in the Gail Shea – Egmont PC Pace.
Machinthesand proved to be the best choice for the bettors after he delivered another winning performance in the Sunday feature pace. Ken Murphy was in the bike for the horse’s eighth win of the season and 26th lifetime victory for owners Noonan Holding Ltd – Russell and Karen Noonan. Hughie Murphy’s conditions the pacer, who made his 24th start this campaign. Bowyer Hanover (Walter Cheverie) was second while Lucky Encounter (Kenny Arsenault) drove up to be third and complete the triactor.
The Prince County oval also hosted with the P.E.I. matinee finals with guest track announcer Christopher MacRae calling all the action. Austin Sorrie held the hot hands with two winners taking Class A with Lisfinny and Class B with Freddy My Boy. Well known track parade marshal Heather Gamester won her respective division with Royal Val.
