Dusty Lane Galaxy and Taliesin will each search for their seventh win in a row in Lady Slipper action Thursday night at Red Shores’ Charlottetown Driving Park.
The 12-dash card will get underway at 6:00 p.m. and will feature three divisions of the Lady Slipper for three-year-old trotters and two divisions for two-year-old trotters. The three-year-old divisions will line up for Race 2, 4 and 8.
Race 8 will feature Taliesin, who will be looking to remain perfect in his 2013 season for trainer-driver Mark McKinnon and owner Buntainwood Farm of Brackley Beach. The Northern Bailey three-year-old has drawn the rail in his $5,600 split and will face off with Dusty Lane Nick (to be driven by Walter Cheverie) and Dusty Lane Shayn (Ron Gass).
Race 2 has Rash Statement (Cheverie) favoured from post 4 fresh off a 2:02.4 victory for owner-trainer Joe Smallwood of Stratford. Other top entries include Oceanview Kate (Mike Stevenson) and Topway (Gary Chappell).
Race 4 has Mile Hill Philly as the morning-line choice for driver John Holmes, trainer Paul Morrison and owner John Breau of Shediac Cape, NB. The PJs Nabby filly was a winner in PEI.Colts Stakes action last week in 2:03.2. Other favourites are Ashotinthedark (Joey Pineau) and Northern Dust (Corey MacPherson).
The first $7,700 Lady Slipper two-year-old trot division (Race 6) will feature the red-hot Dusty Lane Galaxy, who will start from Post 5 with Chappell in the bike for trainer Stacey Lund and co-owners Peter Buchanan and The Estate of George Boswall. Other top selections include Bo Digger (McKinnon) and Scarlet Macdream (Darryl MacLean).
The other division will line up for Race 10. Top entries include Glencove Yoshi (Stevenson), IC Caviar (MacPherson) and Hope Chest (Cheverie). The card also features a $1,350 trot class (Race 3) and the $3,000 claiming mares going head-to-head in Race 9.
The $1,800 featured pace will head to the gate for Race 12 with Leading Camdidate (Jason Hughes) having drawn the rail for owner Donald MacRae of Vernon Bridge and trainer Stephen Quinn. He will look to turn back challenges from Talk Back (Thane Arsenault), Camcun (Kenny Arsenault) and Pinner (Cheverie) in the eight horse field.
Island racing continues Saturday in Charlottetown with a 6:00 p.m. start time and Sunday afternoon at Red Shores’ Summerside Raceway. First-race post time is 1:00 p.m. The weekend cards will feature the Red Cup Classic presented by Lotto 6/49. The event has fan giveaways to the first 649 people, prize draws and special trackside presentations for every race. Red Shores Summerside will also stage the Atlantic Aged Mares Pacing series final and the Joe O’Brien stake for three-year-old colt pacers.
