Last Saturday Nicole and Paul Davies watched their three-year-old pacing colt Desperate Man win the $1 million Pepsi North America Cup. This Saturday they’ll race in another special event, the OSAS 25th Anniversary race at Hanover Raceway with their pacer Westridge Warrior.
Nicole owns the 11 year-old Blissfull Hall gelding who raced for most of his career in Western Canada. Paul spent time on that circuit and claimed Westridge Warrior in March of 2019. They continued to race in Alberta until June of last year when the veteran made his Ontario debut at Hanover.
Since that time he’s raced at most of Ontario’s B tracks and rarely misses a cheque. Paul sometimes is in the sulky for his races but on Saturday afternoon it will be Bruce Richardson at the controls in the sixth race, the OSAS feature. It will be Westridge Warrior’s 220th lifetime start.
Westridge Warrior has yet to win this year but if he is successful in the OSAS event Nicole and Paul will receive a cooler with the OSAS special anniversary logo as well as the logo of the Central Ontario Standardbred Association as well as t-shirts and hats.
In addition, they will receive boxes of special anniversary note cards sponsored by Ontario Racing and created by noted equine artist Michelle Hogan who works often with Hanover Raceway. Michelle drew portraits of OSAS’s most notable ambassador horses: Reverend Hanover, The Painted Pony, Hiltons Hot Stuff and Ruff Me Up and boxes of the cards are being sold as part of the 25th anniversary celebrations.
Hanover’s Saturday program, which is the final race card of the 2021 season, gets underway at 1:30 p.m. and has many other features on the card along with the OSAS race.
