Quebec’s top two and three-year-old trotters and pacers will be on display at the Hippodrome 3R on Friday (Sept. 18) as the youngsters prep for 'Super Sunday' next week.
Friday will be the third and final leg of the Future Stars Series for two-year-old trotters. The top eight point earners in the series will return for their respective $55,000 finals next Sunday (Sept. 27). Super Sunday in Quebec will be the richest day of racing in the province with nearly $500,000 in purses.
The first race of the day is the $10,000 colt division of the Future Stars Series. Featured is Kinnder Dangerzone from Post 7 for driver Pierre-Luc Roy.
The son of Northern Escort has been razor sharp for breeder/owner/trainer Denitza Petrova of Melbourne, as he has won his last two starts in the series and will be looking to make a clean sweep of the preliminary rounds. Other contenders in the race include Hall Win (Post 1), Aoki (Post 8) and Incredible Hall (Post 5).
The $10,000 filly division is a non-wagering race that will be conducted after the first race. Mag N Lady (Post 1) is the standout in the four-horse field. The daughter of Royalty For Life has won both her starts in the series. She scored last week by distancing the field in 2:02 and just missed the track record for her age, gait and gender. She is trained and driven by Jean Francois Maquire, who co-owns the filly with Julie Maquire, Richard Legris and Pascale Maquire.
The action will then turn to some of the top contending three-year-olds for next Sunday’s finals, as they will be taking on older horses in preperation for the finals.
The Preferred Trot (Race 3) spots Babidibou, the 2019 Quebec champion two-year-old, trying his luck against the best trotters in the area. He is set to start from Post 4 for driver Stephane Gendron and is on a two-race win streak, the fastest of which was a 1:57 lifetime-best mile for trainer Maxime Velaye and co-owners Isidoro Russo and Guy Corbeil.
Then, in Race 6, the three top fillies for Sunday’s finals will go head and head. Lotus Sena (Post 1) won an opening round of the series for driver Stephane Gendron. Acaena De Chakrika is se to tstart from Post 6. She has two straight wins in the series, the fastest of which was clocked in 1:56.4. Streakazana, who is also carrying a two-race win streak, is set to start from Post 7.
Race 7 appears to be somewhat of an oddity, as a three-year-old filly is the early favourite against eight older horses. The filly is Kinnder High Class, the older half sister to first-race starter Kinnder Dangerzone. Set to start from the rail, Kinnder High Class won her last start with an impressive first-over mile in the series (she won in a romp by seven and one-half lengths in a lifetime best 1:59.4). She sports five wins from eight starts this year for Denitza Petrova.
