With the Maritimes under alert due to Hurricane Lee, Red Shores, Horse Racing New Brunswick and Harness Racing Cape Breton have cancelled cards of harness racing slated for Saturday, Sept. 16.
"Due to the uncertainty of Hurricane Lee in consultation with Northside Downs, they have cancelled their live card of racing for Saturday," said Atlantic Standardbred Breeders Association's Debbie Francis. "The safety and well being of our horsepeople and equine athletes travelling for the Atlantic Sires Stakes is most important.
"An update for the Inverness Raceway live card will be made tomorrow," said Francis, with updates posted on the SC website when made available.
Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park and the PEI Harness Racing Industry Association will reschedule the race program slated for Saturday, Sept. 16 to Monday Sept. 18 at 6 p.m.
"This decision has been made out of an abundance of caution for our equine athletes, horsepeople, customers and staff," said Red Shores in its release on Friday.
Horse Racing New Brunswick (HRNB) has cancelled the card of harness racing on Saturday, Sept. 16 at Connell Park in Woodstock, N.B. due to the pending arrival of Hurricane Lee.
"A tentative make up date will be discussed and put forward to the Atlantic Provinces Harness Racing Commission for approval in the coming days," said HRNB in its advisory.
