A trotting match-up of epic proportions is set to hit the track Thursday evening in PEI Colts Stakes action at Red Shores’ Charlottetown Driving Park.
First-race post time is 6:30 p.m.
Race 9 will feature a field of talented three-year-old trotting colts ready to lock horns in a $5,600 PEI Colt Stakes division. Oceanview Pancho is the morning line choice from Post 3 for driver Corey MacPherson, trainer and co-owner Paul Larabee of Belle River and co-owner William Roloson of Belfast. The three-year-old son of Neal was a winner in three of his last four starts and will face some stiff company. Other entries include Mr Bower (to be driven by Kenny Arsenault) who had his five-race win streak snapped in his last stakes outing, Cardigan Jack (Marc Campbell) with the rail, Craigh Na Dun (Jason Hughes) from Post 2, BJ Classic (Brian MacPhee) with Post 4, Maritime Champion Glencove Zani (Mike McGuigan) with Post 5, as well as Silverhill Flame (Ryan Neill) and Southfield Storm (Terry Gallant).
The other three-year-old P.E.I. Colts Stakes Division has five fillies battling in Race 3 with Rustico Duchess installed as the morning line choice with Ken Murphy in the bike for trainer John Pineau of Hunter River, who co-owns with Myron Ford of Harrington.
A five-horse group of two-year-old trotting colts will open the card in Race 1 for a $4,500 purse as Pappy Go Go looks to remain sharp for trainer-driver Campbell and owner Grayland Farm of Nova Scotia.
Two-year-old trotting fillies battle in Race 5 for a $4,500 purse with Hop Up selected for the morning line favourite from Post 3 for trainer-driver-owner Keith Campbell of Tyne Valley.
Wicked Nick continues to lead the two-year-old trot division and draws Post 5 in his Race 7 trotting colt split for a $4,500 pot with Gary Chappell training and driving for owners Peter Buchanan of North Wiltshire and Cameron Trail of O’Leary.
The evening pacing feature lines up in Race 11 in the $2,000 Intelisys Aviation Systems Pace with Bazillion (Brian MacPhee) favoured over Perfect Escape (Gilles Barrieau) and First Art Down (Murphy).
The program also features three overnight trot races including the Race 6 Open Trot with Osprey Impact and Freddie hooking up again this week.
Red Shores will play host to the UPEI Panther kick-off and night at the track promotion. Athletes from UPEI sport’s teams will be in attendance with some players teaming up with horses and drivers in Race 2 and 3.
