On Saturday, October 13, the Meadows will take on the colour and atmosphere of a county fair, as the track hosts the championships of the Pennsylvania fairs. The card will include a $20,000 fairs final in all eight divisions for two and three-year-olds.
While the Meadows has hosted the fairs championships regularly, the events in recent years have become celebrations of county-fair racing, with the Meadows Standardbred Owners Association staging a broad variety of family-oriented activities. That will be the case this year as well. Also, the Meadows will offer a handicapping contest and $1 draft beer.
“The Meadows and the MSOA have collaborated to make the fairs championships one of our signature events,” said Mike Jeannot, president of Meadows Racing. “It’s a great celebration that recognizes the hard work of horsemen throughout Pennsylvania and creates new fans for our sport.”
For the first time, the Meadows will present the fair championships as part of an evening card.
“We originally scheduled it as a daylight program,” Jeannot said, “but our fans responded so well this summer to our Saturday night cards that we wanted to accommodate their preference.”
