Cameo Hills Farm in Montgomery, NY will open its doors to visitors on Saturday, August 27 from 1-4 p.m. for an open house.
The open house will be sponsored by the Agriculture and New York State Horse Breeding Development Fund. The open ‘barn’ visit will provide an opportunity to introduce the Standardbred horse to the general public.
The open house will be held at the farm, which is located at 46 Grove Street in Montgomery, NY, and will allow visitors to see the workings of the highly successful Standardbred breeding farm where So Surreal stands at stud. So Surreal is the fastest two-year-old pacer to ever stand in New York. He won the International Stallion Stakes in 1:49.4 and finished third in his Breeders Crown elimination before breaking his coffin joint.
Visitors will be able to meet some World Champion Standardbreds and get a tour of the farm on a hay wagon ride.
There will be information about the growth and needs of a Standardbred, and it will feature a young foal and his mother, along with a visit with World Champion, Glowing Report, a winner of over $2 million, as well as Check Me Out, a World Champion of over $1.9 million.
For those that just want a horse to pet and take a selfie with, retired racehorse and goodwill ambassador Whiskey Pete will be on hand to say hello. Visitors can also learn about adopting or providing foster care for a horse from the Standardbred Retirement Foundation.
Free lucky horseshoes will be given to each visitor to take home.
The event will be held rain or shine; Refreshments and snacks will be provided. There is ample parking available, but limited paved surfaces, so visitors should wear sensible shoes and expect to do some walking. Please leave dogs at home.
