The Meadowlands is hosting a live-money National Handicapping Championship qualifying event on Saturday, October 1 that will provide three seats to the $2.5 million NHC Final in Las Vegas to be held January 27 – 29, 2017.
The NHC is the richest and most prestigious tournament for horseplayers in the world. Last year’s winner, John O’Neil of Huntington Station, NY, topped a field of 606 entries to win the $800,000 first prize and title of Handicapper of the Year.
The Meadowlands' qualifier will have a $400 total fee - $200 will go towards the prize pool estimated at $20,000 and $200 will be used as a bankroll during the contest. All entry fees will be added to the prize pool, creating the rare zero percent takeout contest format. Entry also includes a Daily Racing Program and food vouchers.
Contestants must wager on a minimum of 10 races from Belmont, Gulfstream, and/or Churchill Downs. Wagers can be win, place or show or WPS on one horse per race.
Pre-registration is strongly recommended although walk-up entries will be accepted on the day of the contest. Multiple entries per person are allowed. Contestants must be members of the NHC Tour to qualify for one of the three NHC Final seats. The NHC Tour membership fee of $50 must be paid prior to participating in the Meadowlands qualifier.
