Eastern Equine Encephalitis Case Reported In Ontario

A case of Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) has been reported in a 20-year-old Standardbred located in Ontario, according to information posted by the Equine Disease Communication Center on Tuesday, Aug. 26.

Located at a Hamilton, Ont. farm, the gelding was reported to be normal the day before it was found in lateral recumbency, unresponsive with muscle tremors. The horse was euthanized. 

The horse was reported to have been undervaccinated.

This is the fifth confirmed EEE case in a horse in Ontario this year.
