Harness Tracks of America has announced the 2009 winners of HTA’s college scholarships.
All winners have compiled exceptional academic records and all have harness racing connections.
The winners are listed below.
Jessie Lynn Hennessey, 23, of Kalamazoo, Michigan, with a bachelor’s degree in applied biology and currently working on a master’s degree in public health. She currently is in veterinary school at Michigan State.
Stephanie Huebner, 19, of Plain City, Ohio, a freshman at Otterbein College with a perfect 4.0 average in high school. She will major in equine business and facility management, with a minor in Spanish.
Bethany Pavlik, 21, of Lewes, Delaware, a senior majoring in equine science and management at Delaware Valley College and applying for admission to veterinary school. Her father David Pavlik, is an electrician who lost both hands in an electrical accident, and Bethany has supported herself working for Allamerican Standardbreds and as a technician assistant at Savannah Animal Hospital.
Ariana Peluso, 22, of White Lake, New York, attending the University of Tennessee Knoxville College of Veterinary Medicine. She previously attended the State University of New York (Binghampton) and Cornell University, and plans to specialize in equine sports medicine and ultimately become an equine orthopedic surgeon.
Wayde Marsh, 18, of Milford, Delaware, a freshman majoring in politics and law at Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Virginia. A two-time high school All-American swimmer who excelled in extracurricular activities, he plans a career in government.
