The stars will be out in full force Wednesday night when harness racing returns to Red Shores Summerside featuring the Lady Slipper and Joe O’Brien stakes.
Post time for the 15-dash program is 6:00 p.m.
Nine three-year-old trotters will line up behind the gate in Race 6 for the $14,300 Lady Slipper.
Est Non Ila Dulcis (PP2), owned by Buntainwood Farm, Brackley, is the 5-2 morning-line favourite from the Marc Campbell. Campbell, who won Old Home Week’s top driver award in honour of Francis McIsaac, will be in the bike after driving the filly to victory in her last start in an Atlantic Sires Stakes action. My Daisy Duke, who also won her last start, has been saddled with Post 8 for driver Corey MacPherson. The Northern Bailey-sired fillies look like the ones to catch, while BJ Carmalyta, driven by Clare MacDonald, is also listed as triactor material for the Bert Honkoop stable of Montague.
Howmacs Angel, trained by Fred Paynter, and Western Judy, owned by Blair Hansen, Charlottetown, go head to head in the $11,300 Lady Slipper Gold for pacing fillies. Trainer Tom Weatherbie sends out Don Smith’s Largomotion from Post 3. The filly has banked $6,773 this season.
Some winning streaks move on to the Prince County oval when Top Brand attempts her sixth win in a row for Thomas & Melissa Hawco of Sydney, N.S. Their trainer, Danny Romo, will be in the bike. Accelerated Force has won his last three for trainer Wade Sorrie and the Boyd MacDonald and Danny Ross stable. The Force of Life colt, driven by Mike Stevenson, has a speed badge of 1:57.3 and leaves from Post 3 in the Joe O’Brien Memorial stake in the nightcap.
Customers will have another chance to play the $100,000 Dash for Cash on the card while the Drive for Charity event moves into its final phase with a wrap up scheduled for late October.
