It is with great sadness that the family of Arthur Stanley 'Art' Porter announces his passing. Art passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones, on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at the age of 91.
Art's biggest accomplishment was family: his loving wife Sheila; son Jeff; daughters Kim and Debbie; his grandchildren April, Danielle, Bobby, Ashley and Taylor; six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Born in Springhill, Art owned, trained, and drove Standardbred horses at Sackville Downs Raceway for many years. His passion for horse racing took him to many racetracks both in Canada and the United States. He was well known as a kind and gentle horseman and friend. He won the Governors Plate and Gold Cup and Saucer races in Prince Edward Island in 1969, and in 1970 went on to win the Gold Cup and Saucer race once again.
Art will truly be missed by friends and family.
Arthur Stanley Porter will be laid to rest in Oakridge Memorial Gardens, Old Sackville Road. There will be no service by request. A celebration of life will be organized by the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to Alzheimer Society of Canada.
Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the family and friends of Art Porter.
