Harrington Meet Gets Underway Tonight

Published: August 17, 2020 01:11 pm EDT

Harrington Raceway’s 74th season of live harness racing will resume tonight (Monday, August 17) with a 12-race program.

Post time is at 4:30 p.m.

The featured race is a $13,500 conditioned pace that will star some local pacing heavyweights, including 2015 U.S. Horse of the Year Wiggle It Jiggleit (9-2, Montrell Teague) for owners George Teague Jr. and Teague Racing Partnership. The Clyde Francis trainee has banked nearly $4 million in his illustrious career. The venerable eight-year-old by Mr Wiggles will start from Post 8. Meanwhile, a familiar rival and 2019 Harrington horse of the meet Slick Tony (9-5, Tony Morgan), is back for owner/trainer George Leager. The five-year-old No Spin Zone horse drew Post 2 and will look to pad his healthy career bankroll of nearly $700,000. He is one of the richest Delaware-bred horses of all time. The path to the winner’s circle won’t likely be an easy ticket, however, as the field is full of viable challengers, including Richard Pollucci and Jo Ann Looney-King’s Trojan Banner N (3-1, Victor Kirby). The five-year-old Bettors Delight horse is exiting races versus top flight competition in which the winning time in his last five races has been sub-1:50. The Jim King Jr. trainee will start from Post 5.

The husband/wife team of Jim and Jo Ann Looney-King’s recent successes are well documented after campaigning a pair of the sport’s brightest stars last season, namely Dan Patch Horse of the Year Shartin N and two-year-old filly of the year Lyons Sentinel, both of whom have returned to action this year and are racing at a high level.

Another formidable threat in King barn is Apple Valley Art (7-5, Victor Kirby), who will compete from the rail in the 11th race on the card. The Delaware-bred owned by Jo Ann Looney-King swept through his Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) eliminations and $100,000 final on July 6 and is an impressive three-for-four lifetime and will vie for his fourth consecutive victory.

The wagering format includes a pick four in races 2-5 and races 9-12.

Live racing will continue on a Monday/Tuesday schedule for the balance of August and into the first week of September, until the week of September 7 when Wednesdays will be added through the duration of the meet on October 21.
