Mystifying Seeks Sires Stakes Glory

Mystifying continues her Atlantic Canada tour on Saturday afternoon as Atlantic Sires Stakes action highlights the first half of a doubleheader program on August 14 at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The action kicks off at 1:00 p.m. with 12 dashes tabled for the afternoon featuring the Atlantic Sires Stakes for three-year-old pacing fillies.

Mystifying is the heavy favourite in her $15,460 Atlantic Sires Stakes 'A' division in Race 11 as Gilles Barrieau will attempt to give the 10-time winning daughter of Source Of Pride a prevailing steer from the outside Post 6. The filly has won her last six races for co-owner and trainer Darryl MacLean and co-owners Gordon MacLean of Winsloe and Stephen Downey of New Brunswick. Last year’s champion filly Tobins Brownie will be a top threat from Post 4 for trainer-driver David Dowling while Maggiesdelight has Post 3 with Corey MacPherson after finishing a bang-up third to those two fillies last week at Inverness Raceway in Nova Scotia.

Peter MacPhee calls Mystifying the most probable winner of the day in the Post Time Picks.

“How’s her year going so far?” MacPhee says of Mystifying. “She has seven wins, over $19,000 in earnings and a record of 1:54.2. She’s also won at four different tracks across the Maritimes and with Barrieau back expect to see them in the winner’s circle again.”

The other $15,460 'A' division for sophomore fillies hits the track in Race 9 with Aspoonfulofsugar favoured off the rail with Walter Cheverie in the bike for trainer Joe Baxter and owners Jennifer Baxter and Matthew Williams of Nova Scotia and Cam MacPhee of Charlottetown. The Rollwithitharry filly’s lone victory this year came in the $25,250 Stanfield Memorial stake in Truro in a snappy 1:55.1. Her main threats come from Emmy Lou Hayes (Jason Hughes) and Woodmere Leah (Darren Crowe).

A trio of $3,000 Atlantic Sires Stakes 'B' divisions for three-year-old fillies go to post in Races 3, 5 and 7.

The Colonel Dan Old Home Week Trot also lines up in the eighth race for a $3,000 purse.
