Monticello Raceway’s year-long Heritage Drivers Series will continue with a race for drivers of German decent on Monday, July 30 dubbed the Munich Mile.
The race will be will be the fifth event in the tracks year-long series of races for ethnic drivers.
The winner of the Munich Mile will earn the right to compete in the series finale, ‘the All-America Cup’ later this fall, which will feature the winning drivers of each of the ethnic legs presented during the season.
“In the past we’ve had plenty of drivers with German heritage who have competed in our German heritage race and although some have gone on to bigger venues there’s a chance a few may return for this year’s Munich Mile,” said Eric Warner the Mighty M’s Director of Racing.
Among the drivers Warner was referring to include Tyler Buter, Brandon Simpson, Kevin Switzer, Jr., Kevin Hough and two-time Munich Mile winner, Jordan Stratton.
Any, or all of the aforementioned would add stature to this year’s event but still there is plenty of local talent with German heritage on either their father or mother’s side. Among them are Greg Merton, Jimmy Marohn, Jr. and Mike Merton to name a few.
Warner said he already has confirmation from the Merton boys and Peter Kleinhans and figures to have enough drivers for a full field by July 30.
“Although we have a good start on filling the Munich Mile we will still need eight drivers to have a full field,” Warner added.
Already with berths in the All-America Cup - the series finale - after winning their Heritage Series preliminary legs are: Bobby Williams, Jr. ( Martin Luther King Pace for African-Americans); Lisa Krom (Lady Godiva Pace for women); Jimmy Taggart, Jr. (St. Paddy Pace for Irish Americans) and Alan Charles (Passover Pace for drivers of Jewish heritage),
Still to come are the Godfather Pace for drivers of Italian inheritance, the Maple Leaf Pace for Canadian heritage drivers, and the Mayflower Mile for drivers of British descent.
