The horses will compete under the lights as the harness racing action shifts to Wednesday night at Red Shores Summerside. First-race post time is 7:00 p.m.
The card will be the last event before Governor’s Plate Week action kicks into gear Sunday with the Governor’s Plate eliminations.
Oh To Be Me, with Gary Chappell listed to drive, is the morning line favourite in evening’s top class that will go to the gate at 9:51 p.m. The six-year-old brown gelding comes off the bench with 10 top-three finishes from 14 starts which includes two wins. The Backstretch Beat says he could be the one to knock off. “He now has a recent line on him, and with the hot fractions we will see tonight, we see him picking up the pieces.”
It won’t be easy. Bowyer Hanover, owned by Ivan MacMillan and driven by Walter Cheverie, will have rail control while Athletic Putnam, fresh off a new personal best on Canada Day of 1:56.3, leaves from post two for driver Dale Spence and trainer Paul Biggar. The field also includes Zambuca Gass (PP3), Shady Kowalski (PP5) and the gate-charging Minor Wisdom (PP6).
Nobodys Gigolo gets the top call in Race 6 for the Pick-5 players. The pacer gets the services of Jason Hughes for trainer Blaine McKenna but watch out for Only Skys Escape from the Don Sweet stable off the rail.
In other action, George, a former stakes star with $30,856 in the bank, has been hitting the ticket on a regular basis for trainer George Riley. The four-year-old son of Western Paradise takes on Offshore Cowboy in a ninth race showdown.
Don’t miss the Governor’s Plate eliminations Sunday at Red Shores Summerside. Post time is 1:00 p.m. It’s the official kick off to Summerside’s big week of racing at the historic Summerside raceway. There is racing Tuesday through Friday with post times at 7:00 p.m. The 48th running of the Governor’s Plate, presented by Summerside Chrysler Dodge, will go Saturday July 16. Opening race post time is 6:00 p.m.
