Live racing at Minnesota's Running Aces Harness Park scheduled for tonight (Tuesday, July 5) have been cancelled, which marks the third consecutive cancellation of a scheduled live program
.
The cancellations have come due to the ongoing Minnesota State Government shutdown caused by a budget impasse between Democratic Governor Mark Dayton and Republicans holding a majority in the state House of Representatives and Senate. The Governor has called for meetings to attempt to resolve the issue to resume quickly following the 4th of July holiday.
A release on Tuesday, July 5 by Running Aces has cited an Associated Press report which has indicated a compromise could be in the works. The compromise would set the annual budget for the next two years approximately midway between the $34 billion Republicans want and the $36 billion the Governor wants.
The added revenue to satisfy the budget could come from increased 'sin' taxes on cigarettes and alcohol, plus expanded gaming, which could turn out to be racinos at the two racetracks in the state.
A decision on the Wednesday night card of live racing at Running Aces will be announced Wednesday morning.
