If you like stakes races, Red Shores' Summerside Raceway is the place to be on Wednesday night (July 30).
The track’s 15-dash card will get underway with a special 6:30 p.m. first-race post time.
A total of 13 divisions of the two-year-old Callbeck Stakes as well as two divisions of the P.E.I Trotting Series are scheduled to line up behind the starting gate.
There will be a number of undefeated streaks on the line in the Callbeck Stakes and one is bound to fall in the first of five two-year-old filly divisions.
In Race 2, the undefeated Dusty Lane Bria has drawn Post 4 for owners Kenny Wilkie and Larry Chappell. The Ameripan Gigolo - Briannas Attitude filly comes in off back-to-back 2:00-and-change scores, all of which came off of the front end with Kenny Arsenault in the bike. He'll be handling the driving duties Wednesday.
Woodmere Articblue is also undefeated in her young career. The Articulator - Blue Violet filly is owned by first-time owners Tayna Tremblett and Stevi Jardine of Nova Scotia. Kenny Collins handles the training duties and regular pilot Clare MacDonald will be back in the bike from Post 2. Danny Romo picked up the catch-driving victory in 2:00.2 in her last outing at Truro Raceway. Bossy Brilla, Casa Miasa, Swift Taylor and Sweetwater Rayne round out the field.
The first of five colt divisions start in Race 3. Putnams Legacy is the morning line favourite for Gordon McCabe and Blaise Duff. Another undefeated two-year-old in action, the Cookie Dough Boy colt was a winner in his last start in 2:00.3 for trainer - driver Bernard McCallum.
The first leg of the P.E.I. Trotting Series for aged trotters has been carded as Race 4. A newcomer to red soil, Mopey Corey, is the early favourite. He comes in from the Invitational ranks at Kawartha Downs. Amanda Riley owns the eight-year-old Southwind Lustre gelding while Tommy Riley does the training. Mopey Corey will unite with his namesake, Corey MacPherson, for the first time.
Frill Seeker has drawn Post 3 for trainer-driver Kenny Arsenault. The last time he toured Summerside he just missed the track record by one fifth of a second. Caliban Hanover, Lyrical Lindy, Saulsbrook Balance and Zip The Lip round out the field.
Race 6 is the second division of the Callbeck Stakes for two-year-old trotters. Paymenowpaymelater will put her undefeated streak on the line from the rail. Owned by Wade Peconi and trained by Earl Watts, the daughter of Northern Bailey - Credibility hasn't faced a challenger yet, as she has won both of her previous starts by five lengths. Arsenault will be in the bike.
Dialamara shocked Summerside last Wednesday when he made his maiden voyage an impressive one. He won by 15 lengths in 1:59.3 and closed out his mile with an impressive last quarter in :28.2. The two-year-old Lis Mara colt will look to make it a repeat performance for Doug MacPhee. Tom Weatherbie handles the training duties and Jason Hughes will drive from Post 2.
A pair of Proven Lover colts will look to play spoiler. J J Romeo has drawn the rail for owner Dan Ross of Belfast. Mike Stevenson recently notched his 1,500 driving victory and handles the training and driving duties on J J Romeo. Proven Desire was second in his last start out for owners Blair Hansen, John Thomas and Meghan MacDonald. Summerside's leading driver, Marc Campbell, handles the training and the driving. He will start from Post 6
