Open House At Hanover This Sunday

Hanover Raceway will open its backstretch to racing fans this Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Fans will be treated to a free barbecue and will get to take part in four open house stations.

Station #1 will be hosted by GM Gord Dougan and will involve a walking tour of the different buildings and their functions on race days.

Station #2 will be hosted by Liz Waples and will involve a the health of the horse. Waples, who operates the OHHA youth camps, will discuss all aspects of the horse’s life including health and nutrition.

Station #3 will be hosted by Kristina Anderson and will involve discussion on training horses. Anderson will discuss equipment needed and the work involved in breaking and training standardbreds, as well as their versatility after their racing careers are over.

Station #4 will be hosted by Brian Tropea and Ken Weise, who will give visitors the chance to hold the lines and drive a standardbred racehorse. There will be three horses from the OHHA Youth Camp up on Sunday - two will be on the track and one will be on display in the paddock to assist with the training and health and nutrition stations.

Fans are asked to park in the backstretch and register at the paddock before 1 p.m.
