Update On New Brunswick Breeders Stake

Officials with Horse Racing New Brunswick (HRNB) announce that because only six entries are qualified for the preliminary leg, the New Brunswick Breeders Stake will proceed directly to the final.

With nine fillies eligible, the track can accommodate all nine in a final for fillies. Six pacing colts have been nominated and kept eligible. In the event enough colts and fillies declare, the stakes will be separated on sex and compete for an estimated $10,000 each. If nine or fewer declare for the final (regardless of sex), the final will be an estimated $20,000. The final will go to gate on Saturday, Sept. 11.

“We anticipated growing pains as our breeding program here in New Brunswick begins its resurgence. This year has seen over 30 mares being bred which is a significant increase.” said HRNB President Brock McEachern.

Starting in 2022, foals of 2020 will race for $50,000 added. With only 10 foals nominated, there is significant value in these New Brunswick-bred foals. Additionally, colts and fillies trained in New Brunswick can be made eligible. Interested parties are encouraged to read the stakes conditions found online at Standardbred Canada.

“Each year going forward will get easier as the number of mares and foals increases.” added McEachern. “This is first step of many in the right direction.”
