The Ontario Racing Commission (ORC) reminds the racing industry that a basic aspect of good medication control is ensuring that you only use products that are properly manufactured and clearly labelled, and that have been obtained from an authorized distributor.
Simply stated, medication control means only using medications or products that have a therapeutic value to the horse. You should also read the labels on all medications carefully and follow the directions of an ORC licensed veterinarian.
Trainers should note that an iron-dextran product exists which is labelled only for baby pigs and is directed for intra-muscular injection.
Please be aware that such a product is not licensed for use in horses and if given may result in severe reactions including death.
