Paul Barkley Passes

Longtime industry participant Paul Barkley, of Morrisburg, Ont., passed on July 9 at the Winchester District Memorial Hospital. He was 84.

Barkley, who raced a small stable in Ottawa and Québec, amassed 789 driving and 194 training wins through his career before retiring in 2010.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Lois Barkley (née Carkner), and his parents, Orlin and Gladys Barkley. He is survived by children Debbie Houle (Jacques) of Nanaimo, B.C., and Bonnie Fenlong (Wayne) and Bobby Barkley (Joan) of Brockville, Ont.; sister Eleanor Smith of Morrisburg, Ont.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A public celebration of Paul's life will be held at a later date.

Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be gratefully acknowledged by the family.
