Grand River Tarmac Open To 100 Patrons

On Monday, July 27, the tarmac at the Grand River Raceway will open for the first time this season, but only to 100 licensees and guests.

In response to the recent Stage 3 Provincial Government announcements, Grand River Raceway is permitted to entertain 100 guests in an outdoor gathering. Attendees will still be required to follow strict physical distancing requirements and pre-register to attend the track. At this time, the grandstand and main building will remain closed.

“Following the lead of other local tracks here in Ontario we are excited to open the tarmac to a limited number of Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) licenced spectators, and their guests,” shares Jamie Martin, the director of operations at Grand River Raceway. “It is disappointing for us all that we can not welcome our loyal followers and dedicated fans back to watch the racing, however we are committed to opening the doors as soon as Public Health advises that it is safe to do so.”

Since spectator-free racing resumed on June 5, Grand River Raceway has only been allowed to permit trainers, grooms, drivers, and their essential staff at the track. The 100-person limit will provide an opportunity for many owners to see their horses race live, not via video broadcast, which has become the new norm.

Despite not being able to welcome spectators, Grand River Raceway will continue to run its signature races of the season, the Battle of Waterloo and the Battles of the Belles, on August 3. Spectators are encouraged to watch online as well as tune into a special Facebook live presentation with guest announcers and speciality programing for the day.

Grand River Raceway can be found on Facebook @GrandRiverRaceway. Race programs and live streaming video in HD are available for all races via www.grandriverraceway.com and wagering is available through www.hpibet.com.

Pre-registration for track attendance for licensees can be found at Eventbrite https://tarmacregistration.eventbrite.ca
