Gilles Vachet Passes

Published: July 22, 2020 07:30 pm EDT

Former Journal de Montréal journalist Gilles Vachet passed suddenly on Tuesday (July 21) at the age of 65.

"At the start of the 1970s, Gilles was part of the young dynamic team set up by the legendary Jacques Beauchamp. Like many of his colleagues, he was very versatile", underlined Marc de Foy, Wednesday morning, in Le Journal de Montréal.

For several years, Gilles worked on junior hockey and baseball coverage, in addition to covering horse racing from Hippodrome de Montréal, taking over from Robert "Bob" Arel when he was on vacations.

After having worked for 35 years in journalism, he retired about 10 years ago but he always maintained an interest in horse racing, frequenting the betting parlour at Laval regularly. A seasoned journalist, he was appreciated by all those who knew him.

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the friends and family of Gilles Vachet.
