Gerrity Memorial Set For Saturday

The field is now set for the $260,000 Joe Gerrity Jr. Memorial Pace, which will be the featured dash on Saratoga Casino and Raceway’s Saturday, July 25 program of live harness racing.

Saturday will mark the seventh annual edition of the free-for-all event. The ‘Gerrity’ has attracted a field of eight and the dash has been carded as Race 7 on the program.

Last year’s champion, Dancin Yankee, will be taking his best shot at the Gerrity once again. The career winner of $1.26-million in purses heads into the dash after having paced two consecutive sub-1:49 miles, one of which was a front-end victory at Pocono Downs. The seven-year-old son of Yankee Cruiser will strut out of the barn of Gary Green for the event. Jim Morrill Jr. has been listed to drive from Post 2

P H Supercam, who boasts 46 career victories and over $1.1-million in purses, will also be looking for the lion’s share of the purse. The eight-year-old son of Million Dollar Cam is coming into the tilt off of a wire-to-wire, neck victory in an Open Handicap at Yonkers Raceway on July 11. Jason Bartlett has been named to drive the Jeff Bamond Jr. trainee from Post 4.

The rest of the field is solid as well, as Michaels Power, Luck Be Withyou and All Bets Off, among others, are set to contest the Gerrity.

“We are very excited to have such a balanced field going to post in this year’s edition of our marquee race, Dancin Yankee figures to be a slight favorite to repeat as champion,” said Peter Iovino, the race secretary at Saratoga Casino and Raceway. “Along with the New York Site Stakes three-year old colt pacers and a few quality handicap races, it should be a great night of fun and excitement.”

First-race post time will be 7:05 p.m.
