The 2021 Yonkers Trot winner, Johan Palema, will have new connections after selling for six figures this week online.
The four-year-old son of Bar Hopping won last year’s first jewel of Trotting’s Triple Crown in 1:55 over a rain-soaked Yonkers Raceway. Sold by Bender Sweden Inc. of Vero Beach, Florida for $120,500 to lead this week's online auctions at onGait.com, Johan Palema leaves the Ake Svanstedt stable to join Per Engblom’s barn. A five-time winner from 22 starts, he has banked just over $600,000 and took his mark of 1:50.4 as a three-year-old at The Meadowlands.
A total of 80 horses changed hands through onGait’s auctions so far this week, including Lookslikagoodfella 2,2:01.4h, a two-year-old Ontario Sires Stakes performer with Blair Burgess the winning bidder at $77,000; Infinity Stone 4,1:52.4f, a son of Il Sogno Dream leaving the Engblom barn after being bought for $72,000 by Allen Hazzard; and Mark With A K p,6,1:48, sold to M Spacc Stables of New York for $70,000.
Ron Burke’s 13-horse stable reduction consignment was led by the four-year-old Racing Hill mare, Heavenissofaraway p,4,1:51.2f, which sold for $75,000 to Mark Ford; Buy In p,5,1:50.2f, a $70,000 purchase for Greg Luther; and Ucanttouchthis p,4,1:49.4, a Control The Moment four-year-old sold to Joe Nelson of Maine for $62,000.
