On Sunday, July 5, Twenty-six horses from Menhammar and four horses from Annemanna were sold for record prices at Menhammar OnlineSales 2020 livestreamed auction. The price average was 556 500 SEK ($82,000 CAD), which is the highest ever recorded in Europe.
"Right now I am just truly happy," said Margareta Wallenius-Kleberg. "We have been working in haste to create something completely novel, and it turned out to be a success in the end."
The whole concept behind Menhammar OnlineSales was created during the spring and early summer to fulfill the need for an auction despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The livestreamed online auction came to an end late Sunday night with amazing results, which all can be found at the auction website (menhammaronlinesales.se).
The third horse to enter the auction ring, Eireann (Maharajah – Darling Boko – Chocolatier) from Annemanna, became the first of five horses who were sold for over one million SEK ($147,000 CAD). The most expensive was #29 East Ward (Maharajah – Way Out West – Chapter Seven), who was sold for 1,800,000 SEK ($265,000 CAD) to Lennart Ågren (SRF Stables). East Ward's dam, Way Out West, raced in North America prior to her career as a broodmare.

"This whole livestreamed online auction concept was developed at short notice and that is why it was especially satisfying to succeed in this way," said DVM and general manager Johan Hellander. "The prices were fantastic, the whole concept worked as supposed to and we all have learned something new from this experience. I don’t think this was the last we saw of the whole online auction concept."
Median price for the sold horses was 400 000 SEK ($58,800 CAD) and the average price was record-high, 556 000 SEK ($82,000 CAD). Annemanna sold four horses of which two, Escada (1 175 000) ($173,000 CAD) and Eireann (1 250 000) ($184,000), were sold for more than one million SEK ($147,000 CAD).
"The best part of the night was to see the joy in my mother Margareta’s eyes," said Annika Bootsman Kleberg. "The fact that we had the courage to try something new and succeed in this way feels truly fantastic. I hope that both the bidders and also the vast online audience we had share this feeling." Menhammar OnlineSales was established to take the whole auction concept and experience to a next level, bringing the atmosphere and feel of a real on-site auction home to each one who participated online.
