Fireworks, fan giveaways, a 'dunk the driver' tank, exciting stakes racing — all are part of the Meadows' 'Back to the Track' festivities this Saturday (July 14).

The Meadows and the Meadows Standardbred Owners Association are joining the United States Trotting Association and tracks across the country for Back to the Track, a celebration of the thrills and family fun of harness racing. A compelling variety of activities will appeal to both current fans and newcomers to the sport.

Highlighting Saturday’s race card, with a special first-race post time of 4:25 p.m., is the Sand Tart, a $200,000 (est.) stakes event for two-year-old pacing fillies. In addition to the dunk tank, fan premiums from USTA and fireworks, Back to the Track activities include:

  • A petting zoo, pony rides, inflatable slide and bounce house for kids;
  • Jog cart rides and tours of the Meadows;
  • A balloon/airbrush artist;
  • A patio party with a DJ;
  • A second-chance drawing for losing wagers placed that day.

Mike Jeannot, president of Meadows Racing, said Back to the Track will demonstrate just how much fun harness racing can be.

“We hope to introduce new fans to harness racing,” he said. “And if fans have drifted away from our sport, we want to remind them of the many pleasures that await when they come back to the track.”
