Rideau Racing Returns June 7

Rideau Carleton Raceway is thrilled to announce the reopening of live Standardbred racing, a tradition in the Ottawa community since 1962. Live racing will commence, via simulcast, starting on Sunday, June 7.

Since the government of Ontario’s announcement on May 14 indicated that sporting organizations, including horse racing, may hold events without spectators, the Ontario horse racing industry has been preparing for the restart.

“This is some much needed positive news in a time of such uncertainty," stated Andy Wright, director of Rideau Carlton. “We are happy to be racing again, allowing the horsemen to resume their competitions and provide entertainment for our loyal customers."

In these unprecedented times it is a promising indication to see the tradition of horse racing resume in our community.

Following the June 7 race date, Rideau Carleton Raceway will resume weekly racing Thursdays with a post time of 4 p.m. and Sundays with a post time of 6:30 p.m.

“We were very happy to be able to recall and re-employ a number of our track team members to prepare for the qualifiers and the June 7 race day,” stated Peter Andrusek, Racing Manager. “I want to especially thank the National Capital Region Harness Horse Association, Ontario Racing, OLG and AGCO, for their support during these difficult times and their efforts to have racing reopened.”

For the employees returning to work, all health and safety protocols outlined by public health guidelines and protocols we be followed through the recall process and in the work place.

Rideau Carleton Casino, which is part of the same facility as the raceway, remains closed until the Ontario government determines a reopening date.
