Veronicavermillion will aim for a repeat of last week’s victory in the Thursday evening feature at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at The Charlottetown Driving Park.
First-race post time for the 12-dash card is 7 p.m.
Brodie MacPhee will drive Veronicavermillion for owner Alex MacPhee of Clyde River and trainer Neil Bambrick. The mare has drawn Post 4 in the $2,250 Fillies and Mares Open pace (Race 11) against a field of six rivals.
She will face a tough group of aged mares, including the Jonah Moase duo of Silky Britches (to be driven by Marc Campbell) and Post 7 starter Andro Madi (Dale Spence), who finished second and third, respectively, in last week’s edition of the Fillies and Mares Open. Also in the field is JK Special (Walter Cheverie), General Luckypercy (Ron Matheson), Stayoutofmyaffair (Jason Hughes), and Cool One (Mike Stevenson).
The $1,600 back-up pace will line up for Race 9. IDK is favoured early for driver Vincent Poulton, who also co-owns with trainer Gary Poulton and Gail MacDonald, all of Charlottetown. The six-year-old son of Stand Forever has an improved post from the seven-hole last week, but has to face two rivals that defeated him in that 1:56.3 mile in Eagle Jolt (Campbell) and Panacotta (Mark Bradley).
There are two trot classes on the card, with Buckling Banbury favoured in the $1,350 Race 5 class over Howmacs Pride (Campbell) and Lyrical Lindy (Hughes). Corey MacPherson will drive Buckling Banbury for trainer Ron Gass and owners William Andrew of Calgary, Blake Andrew of Montreal and Brian Andrew of Milton. The Race 3 trot class has Glencove Umay picked off the rail for driver Kenny Arsenault and owner-trainer Carl Bagnall.
