OHRIA Encourages Draft Feedback

Published: June 28, 2013 02:03 pm EDT

Ontario Horse Racing Industry Association President Sue Leslie has issued a letter to the industry, encouraging feedback on the Horse Racing Industry Panel's plan for horse racing in Ontario.

Leslie's letter appears below.

OHRIA is in receipt of the Horse Racing Industry Transition Panel’s draft for consultation titled "Toward a Sustainable Future – a Plan for Horse Racing in Ontario."

At this time, OHRIA is not releasing an official response to the report as OHRIA will be receiving and reviewing industry responses as well as participating fully in the consultative process set forth by the Horse Racing Industry Transition Panel for the early part of July.

OHRIA is encouraging all industry participants to review the Draft Plan and provide both OHRIA and the Horse Racing Industry Transition Panel with constructive, workable solutions for any aspects of the draft that would be deemed not suitable or not in the best interest of the horse racing and breeding industry in Ontario.

The window of opportunity to get this right is short. OHRIA cannot stress enough the importance that the industry provide workable solutions for integration and the long-term sustainability of the horse racing and breeding industry.

OHRIA is encouraging industry stakeholders to register to participate either in person or by Webex/teleconferencing in the four scheduled public meetings across the province:

Monday, July 8 – Western Fair District Raceway, London (1-4pm)

Tuesday, July 9 – Woodbine Racetrack, Toronto (1-4pm)

Wednesday, July 10 – Ajax Downs, Ajax (1-4pm)

Thursday, July 11 – Rideau Carleton Raceway, Ottawa (1-4pm)

To assist with meeting logistics, please register for a session, indicating whether you will be participating in person or remotely, by:

It would be helpful if you could copy OHRIA at [email protected] on any written reports or workable solutions you may submit directly to the Horse Racing Industry Transition Panel [email protected]
