Bob Steele, former general manager at Scioto Downs and presiding judge at the Delaware, Ohio County Fair, was honoured this week by the National Sheriffs Association at its annual convention in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

Steele received an award as the longest serving deputy sheriff and police officer in the United States. Steele, who served 55 years as a deputy sheriff in Franklin County Ohio, was presented with his award by David Goad, president of the National Sheriffs’ Association. Franklin County sheriff Jim Karnes helped in promoting Steele’s selection. The Sheriffs Association conducted a nationwide research to determine that Steele does hold the record.

Steele served 40 years as general manager at Scioto Downs and 50 years as presiding judge at the Delaware Ohio County Fair.
