'Skyroller' Looks For More

Published: June 23, 2021 10:39 am EDT

Fresh off a victory last week, Woodmere Skyroller will try for another in the Thursday evening (June 24) top event at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The capital oval will host an 11-dash program commencing at 6 p.m. (ADT) with the Fillies and Mares preferred pace hitting the track in Race 10, carrying a $2,950 purse.

Woodmere Skyroller was a winner last week at this level in 1:54.4 and draws post 5 on Thursday with Gilles Barrieau back in the seat for trainer Kevin MacLean and owner Reg MacPherson of Stratford. A winner of 18 of 41 starts, Woodmere Skyroller is installed as the morning line favourite.

Larjon Legacy is second choice from post 6 with Walter Cheverie back in action to drive the Bo Ford trainee. Cheverie, a winner of 2,711 races and $4.4 million lifetime as a driver, has not driven since last August when he suffered an injury in a training accident. Dreamfair Zenfire has made short work of this class in previous weeks but has post 8 on Thursday for trainer-driver Marc Campbell.

Peter MacPhee placed his faith in Woodmere Skyroller to get the job done in his Post Time Picks. “Woodmere Skyroller raced great last week storming home in 28.3 to get the gold,” MacPhee said. “She lines up in the same spot this week and with dash leader Barrieau in the seat they’ve got a big shot to go back-to-back.”

Also in that preferred field are Miss Kabana (To be driven by Brodie MacPhee), The Time To Win (Ron Matheson), Filly Forty Seven (Jason Hughes), Lyons Jennielee (Ken Murphy) and Gonna Fool Ya (David Dowling).

Hop Up is pegged as the one to beat in the Race 9 $2,700 Open Trot after winning her last four starts for the combination of driver Corey MacPherson and owner-trainer Keith Campbell of Victoria West. The daughter of Tad The Stud will be looking for win No. 24 as she leaves from the assigned post 6 on Thursday. Her top challenges look to come from Daisy River (Hughes) and Cheeky Little Minx (Barrieau).

PL Nelly makes her East Coast debut in Race 8 for new trainer-driver Hughes and owner Donald MacRae of Vernon Bridge. The four-year-old daughter of Big Jim boasts five wins and $63,052 lifetime and was race timed in 1:53 her last start over the half-mile oval at Yonkers Raceway in New York.

Catch the action live at the track or tune into the Race Day broadcast at Redshores.ca and wager online at HPIBet. On-site wagering opens at 12 p.m. (ADT) on race days at Red Shores properties.
