ORC Expands Race Testing

Published: June 2, 2009 03:17 pm EDT

The Ontario Racing Commission released a Notice to the Industry today, advising all participants of enhancements to the Out of Competition Program to include

added money events. Any horse, once entered to race in a stakes race in Ontario, may now be selected for testing under the Program.

One of the most effective tools in maintaining the fairness and integrity of horseracing has been the “out-of-competition testing” program, first introduced by the ORC in May 2006.

Through its regulatory actions, the ORC is fulfilling its mandate and sending a strong message to all involved in racing – that the illegal use of a therapeutic or non-therapeutic drug will not be tolerated.
