Domenico Toniatti Passes

Domenico Toniatti, a power in Italian trotting industry over many decades, has passed away at the age of 92.

Toniatti’s most famous trotter was influential sire Sharif di Iesol, who in 1972 won the Italian Derby, Gran Premio Orsi Mangelli and Gran Premio Nazionale.

Although Sharif di Iesolo was a top racehorse, it was at stud that he really made a name for himself and for the Toniatti family. For many years Sharif di Iesolo was Europe's leading trotting sire.

Together with his son, Roberto, the Toniatti family also became well known by Americans, as they imported Park Avenue Joe and Supergill to stand at their farm in Lantisana, Italy, and also owned interests in notables Ata Star L, Gigant Neo, Iceland, Kramer Boy, Naglo, Pine Chip, Crown's Invitation and Lotteria winner Legendary Lover K.

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the family and friends of Domenico Toniatti.
