The Horse Name Costume Game will return to Grand River Raceway this Friday (June 17) for the first of three dress-up nights which will offer a total of $5,000 in cash and prizes
.
The contest challenges race fans of all ages to dress in the likeness of the name of a horse racing that night. Last year’s inaugural event featured more than 100 witty, handcrafted outfits.

Upon arrival on June 17, participants must register with the Costume Crew in the main lobby between 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. All participants will be showcased on the race night broadcast in a costume parade on the tarmac following Race 6 (approximately 9:00 p.m.). A panel of three judges will decide the winners based on creativity, effort and presentation.
In the children’s category (15 and under), the top five costumes will win $25 each. The winner of the adult category will take home $500; second-place will win $200; third will win $100; fourth will win $50; fifth will win $25. Grand River Raceway employees are also encouraged to participate for $125 in staff prizes.

First-race post time for Friday, June 17 is 7:10 p.m. The evening will include the usual Fun & Frivolity Friday Night activities, including The NEIGHbourhood kids’ horse craft and education program under the Tarmac Tent from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., Harness Racing Bingo, and the Bouncy Pony Stakes.
