Give Em Heck Streaking On PEI

Seven hot horses are set to collide in Red Shores’ featured dash this Thursday evening (June 14) at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

First-race post time for the 12-dash program will be at 6:30 p.m. The $2,200 feature contest has been carded as Race 11.

Give Em Heck, who will start from Post 1, is riding a three-race win streak into the event for driver Gilles Barrieau, trainer Jackie Matheson and owner Colin Sheppard of Spaniards Bay, N.L. The seven-year-old son of Perfect Union has been impeccable since teaming up with Barrieau this season, as the pacer remains undefeated while the New Brunswick teamster is at the lines.

Nogreatmischief, who has drawn Post 6, has strung together four consecutive top-two finishes heading into Thursday’s dash for trainer/driver Walter Cheverie. Narragansett also has yet to miss the top two thus far in 2018 (he will have Jason Hughes at his lines for Ashley Gamester of Hunter River). Post 2 starter Dilans Mustang is fresh off a victory in 1:57.4 for driver Ken Murphy.

Other entries include Stars Above (to be driven by Steven Shepherd), Dial The Bossman (Mark Bradley) and Likely To Win (Adam Merner).

The $1,950 Open Trot will line up for Race 5. Freddie, who will be the one with the target on his back, will start from Post 5 for trainer/driver Marc Campbell and owner Three Wisemen Stable of Kingston. The six-year-old by Majestic Son was defeated in the same class last week by Osprey Impact, but with her absent this Thursday, Freddie is sure to be the favourite. Frill Seeker, who defeated this class earlier in the season, will start from Post 2 this week for trainer/driver Kenny Arsenault. Holy Molie Maggie (Walter Cheverie), who is fresh off of a pair of third-places finishes, will start from Post 3.

Race 7 will feature a newcomer to Charlottetown, as Swingin Swan will start from Post 5 for driver Myles Heffernan, co-owner and trainer Rachel Andrew of Milton, and Denise Andrew of Calgary, Alta. The four-year-old boasts 12 lifetime wins from just 42 starts, but remains empty in the win column this season.

This Saturday and Sunday will mark the return of the $100,000 Dash for Cash promotion, which also includes a host of secondary prizes. For complete details, head to redshores.ca
