Hanover To Hold Under Saddle Qualifier

Hanover Raceway will hold a special qualifier as part of its 10-race program this Saturday night.

Track GM Gord Dougan says he was approached by Julie Walker, who was trying to find a place for Marielle Enberg to qualify for an upcoming Racing Under Saddle stakes event.

Enberg, a 26-year-old Swedish native who moved to Guelph about two years ago, trains a stable of five horses. She will ride five-year-old Amoreena in what will be listed in the program as Race 4B, and will be joined by up to three fellow riders.

Dougan says details are being worked on now, but it’s hoped that other top local riders like Marit Valstad might join her for the race. Walker has offered to use Dayplanner, who won an elimination of the Balanced Image Stake for two-year-olds at Hanover, for the event.

The Meadowlands held an exhibition race under saddle last year, and owner Jeff Gural enjoyed it so much they added a stakes event for 2013. The event will consist of two eliminations for $10,000 each, with the top horses returning for the $25,000 final on Hambletonian Day, August 3.

Enberg and Amoreena were victorious in an exhibition race under saddle at Hanover last year.
