The battle of the titans resumes in the Saturday night Preferred Pace at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
First race post time is 6:00 p.m. for the 10-dash card with Adkins Hanover and Mr Irresistible having the rivalry squared up at two wins each. The six-horse field will line up in Race 9 with Adkins Hanover -- riding a two-race win streak -- leaving from Post 6 for driver Corey MacPherson, trainer Trevor Hicken and owner Perry Burke of Quebec. Mr Irresistible has Post 5 for driver Jason Hughes, conditioner Jennifer Trainor and owner Danny Birt of Stratford.
Adkins Hanover was a more narrow winner over Mr Irresistible last week but still gets the nod from race analyst Les MacIsaac.
“Adkins Hanover wasn’t quite as dominant last week as he was in his previous start but at the end of the day, it was the same result,” MacIsaac said. “We all know he’ll be setting up shop on the front end again and once there, there could be nothing but open road ahead.”
Other entries include Instant Shadow (Gilles Barrieau), Rash B Havior (Mike Peters), Junebugs Baby (Myles Heffernan) and Starcastic (Brian MacPhee).
The back-up pace hits the track in the Race 10 finale with Narragansett favoured for victory over Beau Seelster. Narragansett has rail control for trainer-driver Hughes and owner Foxyhall Racing of Nova Scotia, but Beau Seelster rides a pair of second-place finishes into the showdown and draws Post 2 for driver MacPherson, co-owner and trainer Kyle Wilkie of Stratford and co-owner Mallory Lewis of St. Peters Bay. Other top contenders include Mick Dundee (Donald MacNeill) fresh off an impressive 2:00 qualifier with Post 3 and Jinglewriter, a 1:59.3 winner in her last outing, from Post 6 for driver Adam Merner.
