Longtime horse racing industry participant Dorothy Sykes (nee Copeman) of Brantford, Ont. passed away on Monday, May 16 at the age of 81.
Dorothy owned racehorses along with her late husband Fred, and she was a longtime employee with OJC / Woodbine Entertainment Group retiring after 37 years of service. Family was everything to Dorothy, and she loved spending time with them whenever she could, however she could.
She is now reunited with her husband Fred (2021) and son David (2007). Loved and cherished mother to Wendy (Larry) Small, Patricia Kiernicki (Johny), and Sharrie Warrington (Gary). Loving grandmother to Shannon, Brent, Tyler, Eric (Katelyn), Kyle, David, Krysta (Donnie), Kayla (Matt), Kara (Brad), Dalton (Emma), Kyla, and Ryan. Great-grandmother to Cole, Caiden, Hadleigh, Addison, Grayson, Riley, Sofia, Elliah, Hazel, and Haisley.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, May 19 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at the George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton St, St. Catharines. Funeral service will take place in the Ceremony Room on Friday, May 20 at 11:00 a.m. with a reception and interment to follow.
