Violet Ferguson Passes

Horsewoman Violet L. Ferguson, 96, passed away on April 4 at Country Club Manor in Mt. Vernon, Ohio.

Ferguson had lived in Richwood Greens, Richwood, Ohio, for 13 years prior to moving to Mt. Vernon.

She was a native of Alexandria, Ind., and was born October 29, 1919. She was the daughter of Granville and Mildred (Cassely) Adams. She married Marc Ferguson of Amboy, Ind., who is deceased.

Violet and her husband operated a Standardbred racing stable for several years before retiring to Florida.

She was a former member of the USTA and the Ohio Harness Horsemen's Association and was a member of the Church of Christ in Richwood and the Richwood Civic Center.

She was the 2013 Marysville Fair Senior Citizen Queen and played and sang in the Kitchen Band at the Richwood Civic Center. She enjoyed life and eating out with her special friends, Laura Kuba, Gertrude Cowgill, Irma Landon and Sandy Brown.

She will be remembered by her family as a wonderful cook, singing and humming in the kitchen.

At her request there will be no services, but a special day in Florida will be celebrated by cooking her recipes and singing and humming her favourite songs with her son and his family. Her final resting place will be in the water canal behind her previous home in Margate, Fla., along with her husband, Marc.

She is survived by her brothers, Bus Adams and John (Diane) Adams; son, Jim (Judy); daughter, Joyce Miller; grandchildren, Traci (Kip) Hendrickson, Julie (Scott) Foster, Tina (Keith) Quinn, and Jason (Miranda) Miller; great-grandchildren, Jordan Hendrickson, Tess Hendrickson, Chloe Foster, Danielle Starmer, Marc Quinn and Devan Quinn; great-great-grandchildren, Christopher Willmeth, Morgan Willmeth and a baby Hendrickson due in November. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters, Evelyn Adams and Virginia Gough.
