Input Sought On Biosecurity Standards

Published: April 29, 2015 06:55 pm EDT

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), in collaboration with Equine Canada, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) and other partner organizations, is working to develop a farm and facility-level biosecurity standard that will help protect Canada's equine industry from animal diseases.

A draft standards document has been produced and is being circulated for comment. The document provides guidelines and recommendations rather than indicating what must be done on all farms and facilities.

Members of the racing community are asked to review the document and provide feedback. The feedback will be reviewed by the Equine Biosecurity Advisory Committee.

When you review the draft, consider the following:

1. Comments and suggested edits to the standard. Where edits/changes are required, please provide the suggested revisions and the basis/reason for the revisions;

2. Guidance on which sections require additional information or clarification and whether this is needed in the standard or the guide;

3. Guidance on which sections should or could be reduced in size or moved to the biosecurity guide.

A copy of the draft standards document is available here.

Please provide your suggested edits by May 31, 2015.

Send your comments, noting “Biosecurity Standards” in the subject line to: [email protected].
